You just opened an email. It says thank you. But something about it made your stomach tighten instead of relax. You read it again. The words are polite. The punctuation is correct. There's nothing you could point to and say, 'That's the problem.' And yet you feel like you just got slapped with a velvet glove. You're not imagining it.
